Studio: Contra Film

Director: Srdjan Spasojevic

Starring: Srdjan Todorovic,

Sergej Trifunovic,

Jelena Gavrilovic

The film focuses on Milos (Srdjan Todorovic) who is a retired porn star, where he has a reputation for being one of the greatest Serbian actors within that industry and has a comfortable lifestyle with his wife and child. Milos is suddenly approached by an adult film director named Vukmir (Sergej Trifunovic), who offers Milos a role in his film that will earn him a higher salary. What is really fishy about Vukmir at first is how he tempts Milos into signing a contract, where Milos is not allowed to know anything regarding the plot of the film. Quite bizarre!

However, it is not till later where Milos discovers the mystery that starts to become very suspicious and pretty alarming. This starts off with Vukmir’s film being shot at an orphanage to children watching Milos perform his explicit acts. Milos obviously starts to feel very concerned with the film that Vukmir is trying to make and speaks to him about his intention to quit the role. After Milos explains this situation, Vukmir seems to act very uncomfortable about Milos’ refusal and finally shows Milos a short film that he worked on, which he calls the genre as: “New born Porn.” This is perhaps the most repulsive scene in cinema history and definitely NOT for the faint hearted.

Milos later storms off and is extremely horrified after watching Vukmir’s film. Although, Milos does not realize that Vukmir threw drugs into his drink when showing him the film.  As Milos is driving out on the road, he is picked up by a female doctor who works for Vukmir. Later on, Milos is dragged by her to return to Vukmir, whilst he is completely doped and not aware of his actions. This leads Milos into being involved with Vukmir’s films that carry themes of paedophilia and necrophilia.

I could go on till the conclusion, but this is one of those films where it is better off being seen to be believed. After watching this film, it will certainly raise viewers with plenty of questions regarding the message of the film and whether the film director is insane or if he is trying to make a statement through all these controversial scenes.

I thought in my opinion that the director’s aim with this film, was to indicate how the adult film industry in Serbia is corrupt to the point where a film director is able to lure you into doing anything for money regardless if the content is legal or not. Although, this is my own understanding of the film’s message and others might interpret it differently.

This film is certainly not suitable for anyone with a weak stomach or easily offended, as the content of the film is really explicit. It is also a challenge for Horror/Exploitation film viewers to see how many extreme scenes they are able to take in and if you are able to sit through the whole of A Serbian Film, then you can pretty much handle any film out there.
